This lovely piece of Leland Blue is nestled in a handmade sterling silver setting that features an oak leaf on the back.

Leland blue is a glass-like byproduct of the iron industry in Northern Michigan.  Well over 100 years ago this by-product, called slag, was discarded in Lake Michigan.  It has been washing up on shore ever since, especially near its namesake town of Leland, MI.  Jewelers and rockhounds have been collecting and using this "stone" for years.  In my limited experience, it seems to be getting harder to find.

Leland blues vary a lot in color and pattern.  This one is a nice deep turquoise color with a porous texture.  These photos are of the exact pendant that you will receive.  This Leland Blue was collected and cut in Northern Michigan by a local craftsman.

I designed, hand-cut, and textured this sterling silver setting in my Northern Michigan workshop. I added a patina to bring out the texture and warmth of the silver.

This pendant is about .8 inches in across and 1.5 inches long including the bail.

Please choose a chain length for your pendant.  I have included a reference photograph. If in doubt, 18 inches is a very popular length.

Each piece that leaves my workshop is marked on the back with "IE" so you know it is an IndigoEdenArts original and ".925" which certifies that it is made of sterling silver.

Enjoy!
